The Light is Gone

Their world is shattered, all their hope is gone,
The Master, tried, condemned and done to death
His torn body, bloodied and abused,
Hung from a cross, He who had done no wrong,
Laid cold and lifeless now within a tomb,
Their Light’s now gone and they are all alone.

They followed when He called them long ago,
Took them from home and kin, to follow Him,
They were but simple men, crude and unlearned,
Who heard, enraptured, when He preached of love
To all their fellow men, but all in vain,
Their Light’s now gone and they are all alone.

He healed the sick, the lame, the dumb, the blind,
Preached love for sinners, those who were despised,
Spoke of forgiveness for our sins, if we but ask,
Love those who hate you, turn the other cheek
The cheek which the betrayer kissed and now
Their Light’s now gone and they are all alone.

He told of his betrayal and his death,
They could not understand it could be so,
As He in triumph through the city rode,
Hosannas rang, palm branches strewed his path
But soon He walked the path to Calvary
Their Light’s now gone and they are all alone.

So now they huddle in despair and fear,
How could He leave? Why did He have to go?
Then breaks the news, news of an empty tomb,
And Jesus is amongst them once again.
They see the wounds on hands and feet and side
Their Light now shines and they are not alone.

That tiny spark, that glimmer of new hope,
Now flares again, a Pentecostal flame,
A flame which will, in time, spread o’er the world,
Jesus has conquered death and Man is saved!
They who believe in Him and walk His way,
Will to the Light be drawn, never alone again.
