Songs of Praise on 15th March 2020

At Carronside singing praises to God was the focus of worship as Mrs Hazel Paterson conducted our service, skilfully put together following much communication with members who had notified her of their favourite hymns - hymns which spoke particularly of thankfulness to God for all His benefits throughout our lives. As we gathered together in a fellowship of quiet reflection we pondered on those words "Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here …….."

and moving to comprehend that unique presence as the Eternal Love of God in the hymn "Love Divine, all loves excelling...." known to us through Christ's incarnation, which was then joyfully and enthusiastically celebrated in Sydney Carter upbeat song chosen by the children of the congregation "I danced in the morning when the world was begun."

The reading from scripture and the prayers of intercession were led by Mrs Balsillie and Mrs Eddie on behalf of Kids at Carronside taught us a new song "God loves you, and I love you" complete with actions demonstrating that love. Hazel read the story "The Lazy Ladybird" to the children with the message that the ladybird decided to fly when she realised it was of necessity - so also God's children need to be active - not lazy -as it is necessary to tell others about Jesus.

In her message to the congregation Hazel spoke from the account of Jesus and the Samaritan woman in the gospel of John. Although there was so much that Hazel wished to share with us today she focused on the woman's actions following her encounter with the Lord - she went out to proclaim Jesus as powerful and all knowing -"He told me all that I've ever done - the Messiah, the Lord …."  This wonder, this realisation by the Samaritan Woman, we held in our thoughts as we also proclaimed in song that same sentiment "O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the works Thy hand hath made ….. Then sings my soul …..how great Thou art"
