Worship at Dunnottar on 23rd February

On Sunday the congregation of Carronside was blessed with the ministry of Mrs Ros Marshall who conducted our worship. Ros warmly welcomed us all to the service which commenced with the powerful hymn celebrating Christ's Resurrection and Kingship "Rejoice the Lord is King ……… lift up your voice, Rejoice again I say rejoice". Ros then shared with us her reflection on a project to create a "Children's Garden". This garden was based on children's own imaginative ideas and ambitions including one of an amazing "Tree House" accessible to a child confined to a wheelchair. After much activity this amazing garden came to fruition much to the delight of one child who could see the rest of the children from the height of the "Tree House" - his own "Mountain Top" experience. This garden, like Paradise was a garden where all were valued and treasured, a reminder to us all that our calling as Christ's disciples is to create a Church where all are welcomed, valued and loved.

Mr McRae then shared a poem reflecting on the disciples' experience of witnessing our Lord's Transformation on the Mountain Top. Our lessons from scripture were read by Mrs MacDonald and Mrs Paterson led our Prayers of Intercession.

In her sermon Ros explored the words from Exodus and the gospel of St Matthew - those accounts of "Mountain Top" experiences. On Mount Sinai Moses received from God the "Tablets of Stone" containing God's Law for the people:   Jesus' Transfiguration was witnessed by His disciples. Both "Mountain Top" experiences represent the lifting up of Humanity to meet the Divine - Moses was lifted up to receive God's Holy Law, the disciples of Jesus were lifted up to witness the Divine Nature of their Lord and Master and to hear that amazing revelation the words "This is My Son, the Beloved, listen to Him". The full reality of their experience could only be understood by them after Christ's Final Victory over Sin and Death at the Resurrection.  Ros informed us how we can all be blessed with such amazing spiritual "Mountain Top" experiences - but their purpose is to help us draw closer to Christ and thus to lead lives of faithful service just like Jesus' first disciples, Peter, James and John.

Worship concluded with a hymn of confidence and reassurance "Christ is made the sure foundation".
