Worship on first Sunday in November

Carronside Church of Scotland

Sunday 03 November 2019

This week’s service, was conducted by locum preacher, Dr Ibi Daramola and opened with a gentle prayerful introit from the choir, accompanied by organist and choirmaster David Sell.

For her reflections today, Ibi had chosen readings, firstly from Psalm 119, which spoke of the need to read God’s commands, precepts and laws which serve to enhance our understanding of God’s purpose. The next reference was from part of the second letter to the Thessalonians where the emphasis is on the need to ensure that our actions and our prayers are prompted by faith which glorifies our Lord. As an example, Ibi read brief excerpts from the start, middle and end of a book she had brought along, entitled ‘The Railway Children’. We were then asked to reflect on how clearly we had grasped the plot and theme of the narrative. Needless to say, we had failed – and so it is with the Bible. Reading excerpts may give us an unconnected fragment of the whole picture, but, reading the Bible in depth is essential to strengthen our belief and ensure we persevere when unexpected challenges arise. Until God provides His creation with a graphic or route map of His ultimate plan for humanity we must move forward by trusting in His Word.
